Being in Darkness is a documentary from Jasper van den Ende, about the concept of darkness and night and its role in human imagination and experience, from the blinding lights of Rio de Janeiro to the sounds of the Rainforest. The film functions less as documentation and more as a constellation: scientific perspectives intersect with poetic images, generating reflections on the ecological, cultural, and spiritual valences of darkness. But always in tension with light—its allure and promise, its historical hold on our perceptual world.

The sound score is being composed using sounds recorded in Brazil, morphing them with modular synthesis into an ethereal background to accompany the journey and descent into darkness.

The film is currently in production and updates will follow.
